About Codesky
Codesky is a website design and digital marketing agency in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Since 2016 we've designed and built more than 500 websites, and we run SEO, Google Ads, hosting and maintenance for businesses ranging from local tradespeople to regional and national brands.
We're a small team on purpose. Our clients talk directly to the people doing their work, with no account managers in between. We plan before we build. We only take on one business per trade in each area. And we tell clients the truth, including when something isn't working.
Why this role exists
Most of our growth has come from referrals, reviews and the work speaking for itself. That's served us well, but nobody's whole job is to market Codesky. Our own website, social channels, case studies and campaigns get done in the gaps between client work, and they show it.
This role changes that. You'll own Codesky's brand and marketing and be responsible for a steady flow of good-quality enquiries. Because you'll sit inside an agency, you'll also lend your skills to client projects, particularly branding, content and social media work, so you'll never be short of variety.
What you'll do
This is a hybrid role that leans towards marketing Codesky. Most of your time, roughly 70%, goes on our own brand and lead generation. The rest goes on client marketing projects, where you'll work alongside our client marketing team. The balance will shift with the workload, and we'll agree priorities with you each week.
Marketing Codesky
- Own the brand. Look after how Codesky looks, sounds and comes across everywhere: the website, proposals, social, email, print and in person. Keep our brand guidelines and tone of voice up to date, and make sure everyone uses them.
- Plan and run lead generation. Build and deliver a marketing plan with a clear target for enquiries each quarter. Decide where the effort goes, run the campaigns and report on what's working, in leads and new clients rather than likes and impressions.
- Run our own website and SEO content. Keep codesky.co.uk current, with new case studies, guides, blog posts and service pages written to our tone of voice and SEO standards. Choose which searches we target, plan the content to win them, and work with our designers and developers when a page needs design or development work.
- Turn our work into proof. Write case studies with clients, collect reviews and testimonials, gather before-and-after results, and make sure good work gets seen.
- Run social media, video and email. Plan, film, edit and publish content on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook, with short-form video at the heart of it, not just static posts. Reels, behind-the-scenes clips, quick tips, client stories: you'll be the one holding the phone, and sometimes the one in front of it. Build and send a regular email to clients, past clients and prospects.
- Get Codesky known locally. Represent us at Lincolnshire business events, networking groups and award entries. Build relationships with local press, chambers of commerce and partners who could refer work to us.
- Look after referrals and partnerships. Make it easy for happy clients and partners to recommend us, including the "Website by Codesky" footer link and referral page.
- Measure and report. Track enquiries by source in GA4 and our CRM, report to the Director monthly, and stop doing what doesn't work.
Marketing projects for clients
- Branding. Help clients build or refresh their brand: positioning, messaging, tone of voice and brand guidelines, working with our designers on the visual side.
- Content and copy. Write website copy, case studies, guides and email campaigns for clients in their voice, to our quality standards.
- Social media. Plan and deliver social media strategy and content for clients who need it, including short-form video.
- Campaigns. Plan launch and seasonal campaigns that tie a client's website, SEO, Google Ads and social together, working alongside our client marketing team.
- Client meetings. Join workshops and strategy meetings, explain your recommendations plainly, and own the work you deliver.
What success looks like
After a year, Codesky gets a predictable number of good enquiries every month from marketing, and you can show where each one came from.
Your first 90 days
- First 30 days: learn. Meet the team and sit in on client work. Review our brand, website, social channels, case studies and where current enquiries come from. Set up tracking so every lead has a source.
- Days 31 to 60: plan. Agree a 12-month marketing plan and lead target with the Director. Refresh the brand guidelines and tone of voice where needed. Publish your first new case studies.
- Days 61 to 90: deliver. Have the plan running: a regular content and social schedule, the first email to clients and prospects, and at least one local event or partnership in motion. Take on your first client marketing project.
How we'll measure it
| Measure | What good looks like |
|---|---|
| Enquiries from Codesky's own marketing | A monthly target we'll agree together when you start |
| Enquiries that become proposals, and proposals that become clients | Tracked monthly, rising over the year |
| Case studies and reviews published | Targets we'll agree together when you start |
| Client marketing work | Delivered on time, to brief, and with happy clients |
| Reporting | A clear monthly report to the Director on leads by source and what's changing |
What we're looking for
Essential
- Proven marketing experience, in-house or agency, where you were responsible for generating leads, not just awareness. We're not counting years: show us what you can do. This isn't an entry-level role.
- Solid industry knowledge: you understand how websites, SEO, paid ads, social and email work together to bring in business, and you can talk confidently about all of them.
- Confident creating short-form video: planning it, filming it on a phone, editing it and appearing in it when needed. Show us some you've made.
- A track record you can show us: campaigns you ran, the numbers behind them, and what you'd do differently.
- Excellent writing. You can write a case study, a LinkedIn post, an email and a web page, each in the right voice, and you don't need an editor to catch your mistakes.
- A strong eye for brand. You know when something looks or sounds off-brand, and you can explain why.
- Hands-on experience with social media for a business, including planning, creating and reporting on content.
- Comfortable with the numbers: GA4, social analytics and a CRM or spreadsheet that tracks leads to the end.
- Organised enough to run Codesky's marketing and client work side by side without either slipping.
- Confident with clients: you can run a workshop, explain a recommendation plainly and take feedback well.
- A full UK driving licence, as you'll travel to client meetings and events around Lincolnshire and the East Midlands.
Desirable
- Agency experience, especially in a web design or digital marketing agency.
- Working knowledge of SEO and Google Ads, enough to run Codesky's own and to plan client campaigns with the team.
- Design skills in Figma, Canva or Adobe, for social graphics and quick brand assets.
- Experience with WordPress, editing pages and publishing content.
- Email marketing experience (Mailchimp or similar).
- Experience of local networking, events or PR, ideally in Lincolnshire.
- A marketing qualification such as CIM. Helpful, but your work matters more.
The kind of person who'll do well here
Confidence is key. You'll be the face and voice of Codesky's marketing: on camera, at networking events, in front of clients and pitching your ideas to the Director. If you're happy to pick up the phone, walk into a room of strangers or hit record without overthinking it, you'll fit right in. You'd also rather show results than talk about them. You're happy being the only marketer for your own brief, but you like working in a small team where everyone knows what everyone else is doing. You tell people the truth, kindly. And you care about the quality of the work as much as we do.
What we offer
- A salary from £30,000, depending on experience, plus commission on every lead you bring in that becomes a client, paid as soon as their project deposit is taken.
- 20 days' holiday plus bank holidays, and your birthday off on us.
- A workplace pension.
- A real say in how Codesky grows. You'll work directly with the founder, and your plan becomes the plan.
- Variety: our own brand one day, a client rebrand or campaign the next.
- A small, experienced team in our office in Grantham.
- Flexible hours, 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm, and time to make up or take out for appointments and the things that matter. In the office at least three days a week, the rest from home.
How to apply
Send your CV and a short covering note to hello@codesky.co.uk with "Brand & Marketing Manager" in the subject line.
In your note, tell us about one campaign you ran that brought in leads or sales: what you did, what happened and what you learned. A paragraph is plenty. We'll read every application.
What happens next: a short chat on the phone first, so we can both get a feel for whether it's right. If it is, we'll invite you to an interview in person at our office in Grantham, where we'll ask you to talk us through how you'd market Codesky in your first 90 days.
Please only apply if you have marketing experience and a working knowledge of digital marketing. Applications without it won't be taken forward. Codesky is an equal opportunities employer: we judge every applicant who meets the requirements on their skills and experience alone, and we're happy to make reasonable adjustments at any stage of the process. Just let us know what you need.
