Why Maintenance Matters
Your website needs looking after
Updated and protected
WordPress core, plugins, and themes patched on a regular schedule - tested in staging where possible so security updates never break the front end.
Performance kept sharp
Core Web Vitals and page-speed monitored continuously - bloated plugins flagged, slow queries surfaced, and fixes applied before they hit search rankings.
Always a way back
Daily off-site backups of every file and the database. If something goes wrong, your site is restored quickly and cleanly - no panic, no lost work, no starting from scratch.
Why It Matters
The real cost of neglecting your website
From security breaches to silent SEO decay - pick a risk to see exactly what happens when maintenance is skipped.
An unpatched site
is an open door.
An outdated WordPress site is a vulnerable WordPress site. Hackers actively exploit known plugin vulnerabilities - bots are scanning for them within hours of being disclosed. Once a site is compromised, the cost of recovery, both financial and reputational, is far greater than the cost of prevention.
The Risk
- Malware injection & defacement
- Customer data exposure & GDPR liability
- Google Safe-Browsing blacklisting
Sites slow down
when no one is watching.
Database bloat, unoptimised images, outdated code, and plugin conflicts all chip away at load times. Slow sites lose visitors before they ever see your offer - and Google notices, dropping rankings as a result. Regular maintenance keeps things lean and fast.
The Risk
- Page-speed drops & failed Core Web Vitals
- Higher bounce rates on mobile
- Slower checkout & form-submission rates
Rankings slip quietly
until they’re gone.
Search engines penalise neglected sites: broken links, slow pages, security warnings, and outdated schema all push rankings down. The decline is gradual and easy to miss until you check the numbers and find traffic has halved over twelve months.
The Risk
- Broken links & 404 errors hurting crawlability
- Schema markup falling out of date
- Security warnings de-indexing pages
Every minute offline
is revenue walking out.
An hour of downtime during business hours costs more than a year of maintenance for most businesses. Failed payment processors, broken contact forms, and crashed checkouts all bleed revenue silently - often without anyone noticing until the weekly report.
The Risk
- Unmonitored downtime & outages
- Broken checkout & enquiry forms
- Failed integrations & payment gateways
When it breaks
at nine on a Monday.
Without a maintenance partner, every incident starts with a frantic search for someone who can help - explaining the setup, sharing credentials, and waiting in a queue. A maintenance plan means you already have a relationship with a team that knows your site inside out.
The Risk
- No one to call when the site goes down
- Lost time onboarding a new developer mid-crisis
- Rushed fixes that introduce new problems
FAQs
01 Can you maintain a site you did not build?
In most cases, yes. We will carry out an initial audit to assess the state of the site and identify any issues. If the site is built on WordPress and is in reasonable condition, we can take over maintenance. If there are fundamental problems, we will tell you honestly and discuss options.
02 What is the difference between maintenance and hosting?
Hosting is where your website lives. Maintenance is the ongoing care that keeps it running properly. Hosting provides the server, the storage, and the uptime. Maintenance covers updates, security monitoring, backups, and technical support. Ideally you have both, and we offer them as separate or combined services.
03 How often do you run updates?
We check for and apply updates on a regular schedule, typically weekly. Critical security patches are applied as soon as they are released. Every update is tested in a staging environment where possible to make sure it does not cause any issues before it goes live.
04 What happens if an update breaks something?
That is exactly why we take backups before every update cycle. If an update causes an issue, we roll it back, investigate the cause, and resolve it. You will not be left with a broken site. This is one of the key reasons maintenance plans exist.
