Web Design for Hotels

Every booking that comes through your own website is a booking you don't pay commission on.

We've worked with The Olde Barn Hotel. Hotel websites have a clear job: persuade someone who found you on a booking site to book direct instead.

Why direct bookings matter

The online travel agents take a commission on every room they sell, and most hotels can't afford to leave them. But a guest who's seen you on a booking site will often look you up directly before they commit. If your own site is faster, clearer, has better photos and offers a reason to book direct, you keep that booking and the margin with it.

What a hotel website needs

Photography that does the rooms justice. A booking engine that works on a phone and doesn't lose people halfway through. Clear information on rooms, rates, parking, food and the things guests ring up to ask about. Pages for weddings, events and groups if you do them. And speed, because a slow hotel site loses bookings to the OTA tab that's already open.

Getting found

Local SEO for "hotel in [town]" searches, and Google Ads to compete with the booking sites on your own name, which they will be bidding on.

How we'd do it

Websites for hotels: your questions

How can our website win more direct bookings?

Be faster and clearer than the booking sites, and give a reason to book direct, such as a better rate, free breakfast or flexible cancellation. Guests who find you on an online travel agent often look you up before booking, and a good website keeps that booking and its commission.

Which booking engine should we use?

One that works well on a phone, connects to your property management system and channel manager, and doesn't send people to a slow, off-brand page halfway through. We'll work with the engine you have or help you choose one.

Do we need to bid on our own hotel name in Google Ads?

Often, yes. Booking sites frequently bid on hotel names, so a guest searching for you may see them first. A brand campaign is usually cheap and protects bookings that are already yours.

What information do guests look for most?

Rooms and rates, parking, breakfast and dining, accessibility, pet policy and check-in times. Answering these clearly reduces phone calls and helps you show up for more specific searches.

Should we show our star rating or awards?

Yes, if they're current. A VisitEngland or AA rating, or recognised awards, are useful trust signals, but only display what you currently hold.

Have you worked with hotels before?

Yes, including The Olde Barn Hotel.
