Web Design for Restaurants
Hungry people make quick decisions. Your website has about ten seconds to show them the menu and tell them how to order or book.
Lotus Grill had no way to take orders online. We built them an ordering site on WooCommerce and used Google Ads to put it in front of people searching nearby.
What a restaurant website has to do
Show the menu, with prices, in a form that reads on a phone (not a PDF). Show where you are and when you're open. Make booking or ordering the most obvious thing on the page. Carry photos that make people hungry. And keep all of that up to date without the owner needing a developer, because menus change weekly.
Online ordering without the platform fees
Delivery apps take a big slice of every order. A restaurant with its own ordering system keeps that margin and keeps the customer relationship. We build ordering on WooCommerce, so it's yours.
Getting found
Restaurant searches are almost all local and almost all on a phone. Your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your photos matter as much as your website. We set up all of it together.
How we'd do it
Websites for restaurants: your questions
Should our menu be a PDF?
No. PDFs are slow to open on a phone, hard to read and invisible to Google. A proper web page menu with prices loads quickly, can be updated in seconds and helps you show up for searches for the dishes you serve.
What allergen information do we need online?
If customers can order food online for delivery or collection, allergen information has to be available to them before they buy, as well as when the food arrives. Many restaurants also list the 14 major allergens against each dish on the menu page. Your local authority's food team can confirm what applies to you.
Can we take orders without paying delivery app commission?
Yes. Your own ordering system keeps the margin and the customer relationship. We built Lotus Grill an ordering site on WooCommerce and used Google Ads to put it in front of people searching nearby.
Should we show our food hygiene rating?
If it's good, yes. In England displaying it is voluntary, but customers look for it and many check the Food Standards Agency site anyway. A 5 rating is a trust signal worth showing.
How do we get more bookings from Google?
Keep your Google Business Profile accurate, especially opening hours on bank holidays, add a booking link, post fresh photos and reply to reviews. Your website then needs to load quickly and make booking the most obvious button on the page.
Can we update the menu ourselves?
Yes. We build restaurant sites so that menus, specials and opening hours can be changed by your own team in a couple of minutes.
