E-commerce Website Design
The product page, the basket and the checkout decide whether you make money. That's where we spend the time.
Mobiquip came to us with an idea and no shop. We built it on WordPress and WooCommerce, and we've worked with them from around £100,000 a year in sales to more than £2 million. Happy Hay came with a site that wasn't selling; we rebuilt the brand, the shop and the marketing, and they're now doing more than £40,000 a month. Dalen Products are another of our e-commerce clients.
What makes an online shop sell
Product pages that answer the questions a customer would ask in a shop: what is it, will it fit, how much, when will it arrive. Navigation that gets someone to the right product in two clicks. A checkout that doesn't ask for anything it doesn't need. Speed, because every second of loading loses buyers. And the unglamorous back end: stock, shipping, payments and the integrations with whatever runs your business.
WooCommerce, Shopify or custom?
We build on all three, and we'll tell you which fits. WooCommerce gives you WordPress flexibility and no platform fees, and it's what we built Mobiquip on. Shopify is quicker to run and better for some businesses. Custom is for when neither does what you need. The choice depends on your products, your volumes and who's going to run it day to day.
Selling more once the shop is live
An online shop needs traffic, and the two reliable sources are Google Shopping and SEO. We run both, and because we built the shop, the product feed and the site structure are set up for them from day one.
How we'd do it
E-commerce websites: your questions
What does an online shop need to be legally compliant in the UK?
Clear business details, prices including VAT and any mandatory charges, delivery costs before checkout, and a returns policy that reflects the 14-day cancellation right customers have under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. You also need a privacy policy and cookie consent that meets UK GDPR and PECR. We build all of it into the shop.
Can a small shop really grow into a big one?
It can, with the right foundations. Mobiquip came to us with an idea and no shop; we built it on WordPress and WooCommerce and have worked with them as sales grew from around £100,000 a year to more than £2 million.
Our shop gets traffic but doesn't sell. Why?
Usually the product pages, the basket or the checkout. Missing information, slow loading, surprise delivery costs and long forms lose buyers. Happy Hay had a site that wasn't selling; after we rebuilt the brand, the shop and the marketing, they're doing more than £40,000 a month.
Can my shop connect to my stock, accounts or courier software?
Usually, yes. Most stock, accounting and shipping systems connect to WooCommerce and Shopify, and where they don't we can build the link. We'll check your systems before we quote.
Where will our sales come from?
For most shops, Google Shopping and SEO, with email bringing customers back. Because we build the shop, the product feed and site structure are ready for both from day one.
Do you build on Shopify as well?
Yes. We build on WooCommerce, Shopify and custom platforms, and we'll tell you which fits your products, volumes and who'll run the shop day to day.
